Overview:
Distributed storage system providing object, block, and file storage. Started as a PhD research project by Sage Weil, initially focused on file systems for HPC workloads. Released as open source in 2006, later supported by DreamHost and then acquired by Red Hat.
Use Case:
One of the most popular distributed storage platform for Kubernetes and OpenStack (including Yaook and SCS). Can easily manage hundreds of petabytes of storage, with a focus on performance and reliability.
